Modest Musorgski was one of the most important Russian composers in the XIXth century and one of the most outstanding person from the group of composers who belonged to the group called “The Five”. He was a bold innovator and a musical visionary with the excellent sense of drama. His “Borys Godunov” in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s instrumentation is an opera which is of great significance not only for the European music, but also for his compositions.

This piece is a historical drama about the mechanisms of power in the XVIIth century  Russia, but its message about the fate of the ruled people and government actions is universal.
