Jewish Culture Festival ”Simcha” will last 6 days and will be full of different events: lectures, meetings with famous people, theatre performances, movie projections, workshops, language courses, concerts. According to Jewish culture, 13 is the number that has a special meaning because it refers to the symbols of kabala and maturation. Because it is going to be the 13th edition of the festival its programme will revolve around them.

The programme of the festival will be on four pillars:

The first one is connected with the events (workshops, happenings, walks) that will be led by outstanding artists and will have the aim to develop creativity.

The second will be educational and it will consist of lectures and meetings – it will be a chance to know more about Jewish culture.

The third one will be the presentation of movies connected with Jewish culture. During the festival there will be presented movies from the 8th edition of International Festival of Jewish Motifs in Warsaw.

The last pillar will be concerts which is a tradition during the festival. It’s a great chance to listen to different kinds of Jewish music that are played on high, artistic level.

The Australian singer, poet and writer will be a music star of this year edition of Era Nowe Horyzonty film festival. He will play a concert on July 29 during his tour in Europe that promotes the newest and second album of Grinderman band.

Nick Cave has been some times in Poland – in Wroclaw 2 times – as a soloist on Przegląd Piosenki Aktorskiej in 1999 and in 2001 in Centennial Hall with The Bad Seeds, the heir of a legendary band “The Birthday Party”.

The Bad Seeds, owing to which Nick Cave became popular, plays the dark type of rock. He became a star because of the song “Where the Wild Roses Grow” from the album “Murder Ballads” that he sings with Kylie Minogue.

Three musicians from this band: Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos together with Nick Cave set up in 2007 the Grinderman band – called also Mini-Seeds. Nowadays they play concerts in the USA and promote the second album that was released in autumn. In summer they will promote in Europe (in Dublin, Moscow, Athens and Ostrava) the “Grinderman 2” album.

Nowe Horyzonty will be in Wroclaw for the sixth time from 21 to  31 July 2011. Like every year one will find good movies, excellent music and very interesting guests during the festival.

The most important part of this year edition of the festival can be the movies that got reward at Berlinale Film Fesitval: “Turin Horse” by Bell Tara, “The sleeping Beauty” by Catherin Breillat or “Curling” by Denis Cote. During the festival the Iranian film “Jodaeiye Nader az Simin” directed by Asghar Farhadi will be shown in Poland for the first time. It got a reward on Berlinale Film Festival.

Programme NH 2011

During the 11th edition of the festival one can have an opportunity to watch a 3D movie by Wim Wenders about the German choreographer and dancer Pina Bausch. The film will be shown four times and there is a chance that its director will be a guest of the festival.

One of the most original retrospective of the Era Nowe Horyzonty will be the series “Behind pink curtain”. It will be about a very popular erotic cinema in Japan that was created in the 60s  of the last century.

This year edition will also include “Red westerns”. They are the films which were produced in Soviet Russia before the Second World War and after 1945 in the countries behind the  Iron Curtain. Among the ones shown on the festival there will be a Czechoslovakian cult western “Lemonade Joe” and Polish “Law and fist”.
