The congress in Wroclaw’s Centennial Hall will be one of the most important events of Polish Presidency in 2011. It will last 4 days and will start on 8 September. The organizer is the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, the National Audiovisual Institute and The City Hall of Wrocław.

During the congress there will be tens of meetings, artistic events and projects involving 300 artists, scientists and philosophers. In their group one can find f.e. Zygmunt Bauman, Umberto Eco, Vaclav Havel, Wiktor Jerofiejew, Krystian Lupa, Dorota Masłowska, Amos Oz, Krzysztof Penderecki, Tadeusz Różewicz and Andrzej Wajda.

The opening celebration will be added splendor by the presence of professor Zygmunt Baumann who from the beginning has taken part in organizing the congress. The professor will deliver an inaugural lecture.

During the congress there will be an artistic performance of  Krzysztof Penderecki and the guitarist of the Radiohead Jonn Greenwood and a representative of electronic music Aphex Twin. During two concerts that are planned in Wroclaw there will be presented 3 compositions by Krzysztof Penderecki: “Polymorphia”, “Ofiarom Hiroszimy – tren” and “Kanon”. All the compositions were written for strings in 1960-62, in the period of avant-garde in the output of Krzysztof Penderecki who both Jonn Grenwood and Aphex Twin appeal to . The composition “Polymorphia”, which50th anniversary is in 2011, is the inspiration for these artists. Jonny Greenwood will compose “48 Responses to Polymorphia” and Aphex Twin – “Polymorphia Reloaded”. The compositions will have a world preview in Wrocław.
