Originally from Portugal, fado music is very successful both worldwide and in Poland. After a well-accepted concerts of leading fado musicians – Mariza, Cristina Branco, Ana Moura and Teresa Salgueiro from Madredeus team – Ethno Jazz Festival is pleased to invite you to the most important male voice of fado – Camana. The concert will take place on February 18 in Wroclaw White Stork Synagogue.

The full name of the musician is Carlos Manuel Camana Moutinho dos Santos Paiva Duarte. He was born in 1967 in Oeiras. He says little about himself, he repeats that “he shows who he is by singing,” and that he was mostly influenced by three artists: Amalia Rodrigues, Carlos do Carmo and Alfredo Marceneiro. Today, however, he walks his  own path, respecting tradition, but also reaching for new means of expression and the new poets. One thing remains the same, and that is – he says – the inner conviction that he wants to sing fado for life.

When in 1994 he signed a contract with EMI, he already had 20 years of singing. He recorded the first album “Uma Noite de Fados” in 1995, which was a live concert of live Fado. It proved a success. The critics started to see in him someone who renewed this kind of music. They were not wrong which was confirmed three years later by another album, “On the Linha da Vida”.

In 2000 he recorded his third album “Esta Cois da Alma” in which he showed himself not only as a singer, but also an extremely sensitive interpreter of poetry. The record won every possible award of critics and audience in his homeland, and brought him recognition and popularity around the world. A year later he released another album, in the general assessment the most mature, “Pelo Dia Dentro“. Each of the discs was better than the previous one. The consequence of a growing international career was in 2003 edition of the album “The Best of …” intended for fans outside the Portuguese fado – “The Art Of Camana – Prince Of Fado”.

At the end of the last year he produced his first live album, “Como … Como Dantes Sempre”, consisting of two CDs: one recorded in the theater, the other in a small fado club. Both proved that Camana felt well before large audience as well as before few people. This is still his bestselling album.
