Chick Corea was born in 1941. Since the 60s he is considered one of the most important musicians in jazz world. Next to Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarret he is regarded as the best jazz pianist of the XXth century. He was a predecessor of electronic instruments and genre fusion and influenced music genres such as post-bop, Latin jazz, free jazz or avant-garde jazz. He performed in Miles Davis’ band recording with them very famous albums: “Filles De Kilimanjaro”, “In a Silent Way”, “Bitches Brew” and “Miles Davis at the Fillmore”. He played also with Anthonym Braxton, Dave Holland, Stan Getz and Herbie Hancock. Something unusual was his concept of creating music in duo with a vibraphonist Gary Burton.
Gary Burton is one of the most important vibraphonists of world jazz. He cooperated with Chet Atkins, Herbie Hancock, Larry Coryell, Path Metheny or Carla Bley. The mutual album of Chick Corea and Gary Burton “Crystal Silence” presented a completely different artist than the leader of jazz and rock Return To Forever and the avant-garde Circle group. Conventional jazz passages were subordinated to a specific convention which gave the features of calm melancholic music to the improvisations of Corea-Burton duo. The success of their recordings was a turn in jazz style of the pianist and composer.
