The Gondola’s Bay is located in Purkyniego Street between National Museum and Polish Hill in the place of the estuary of long city moat to the Odra river. The bay refers to the tradition of Venice of the north.
Building the bay was connected with hydro investments that were made in Wroclaw. The first such an investment connected with this place, was to fill the Oława moat and move the place of the estuary to the Gondola’s Bay. Then the course of the Oława river was shortened and moved close to Grunwaldzki Bridge. Only the piece called Gondola’s Bay remained from the long city moat . The works were made in the 80s of the XIXth century. Then the bay was adapted to a port for pleasure boats. To do it the quay was strengthened and the bay was built.
Owing to the cooperation with the City of Wrocław and “Drzwi Europy” (The door to Europe) association the harbor with kayaks, rowing boats and launches was built in the bay .
The bay is opened from 1 April to 30 October ( in case of bad weather the season will be shortened).
